My root canals were painless. How late in the game did the dentist find out?

It started hurting me 3 days ago.
I went in to the dentist today and he told me I will need a root canal.
He said it hasn't yet formed an abcess, but it will.
The tooth is mostly dead.

Is there a dental school near you? I got one done very cheap there, with good results.

I Have a temporary filling on a root canal that was never finished

I will probably never get it ocmpletely finished

the operation was started in a 3rd world country. Cost about 100 bucks for the entire treatment but I wasn't able to finish it in time.

I will not finish it here. I have neither money nor patience. Althought I have a friend whos a dentist. Maybe hed do it pro bono.

You should think about getting it finished and capped. It may start to fall apart.

I had a root canal about a month ago. The root canal procedure itself was about $740 and the crown about $850. Total cost was around $1650 with my insurance paying $1000 (their yearly max).
My first temporary crown fell off and i had to go get another one that they put on with stronger adhesive than the last one.

The filling in the tooth had fell out like 2-3yrs ago and i hadn't been able to eat on that side for about the last year or so. It just started hurting all the time no matter what i did so i went to the dentist and he gave me some antibiotics and some painkillers.

The painkillers worked great for the nerve pain till i was able to get back and have the root canal done.
The day of the root canal, after the shots wore off, it was starting to hurt. A different type of pain from the nerve pain before. I took two (normally i would take one and it would take care of the pain) and it didn't even take the edge off.
The painkillers almost did nothing for the pain after the root canal. It wasn't quite as painful as the nerve pain before but it was still slightly painful especially if i accidently bit down on the temp crown. The pain subsided after about 3 days but i wasn't actually able to eat on the temp crown for about a week and a half to two.

Overall, i hope i never have to have another root canal but i really had no other choice because the wisdom tooth is growing at an angle near the tooth and i would've had to go to an oral surgeon to extract the tooth.

Good luck!

I have no dental.
I'll be shelling this out.

Good lord. I know of people with bad teeth. No matter what...4-6 cavities a year with root canals and teeth that rot from the inside out. Could be a lot worse. Even with insurance, after years of dental work it will be like paying off a car loan.

Mine was easier than getting a tooth cleaning. Just the bill that sucks. If you have insurance it should be no big deal at all.

I had one done. The only real pain was soreness in my jaw afterwards. Don't they take the nerve out in a root canal? So what is gonna hurt after it is gone?

I am not sold on the idea of dental insurance. It seems that you end up paying about the same amount in monthly premiums that you would for having work done.

I've had 13 of them done, they don't hurt. It hurts more to get your teeth cleaned.
