I accidentaly ordered an IDE drive instead of a SATA one for my a64 machine, id hate to have to wait to exchange it (newegg), how much difference am i lookin at? noticable performance boost from IDE to S-ATA??? If there isnt much difference then ill just keep it, what do you guys suggest? Thanks

Unless you are planning to get a 10kRPM "Raptor" drive, or to use RAID, I doubt you will see any performance improvement between IDE and SATA 7200RPM drives.

yeah I don't think the performance gain is that big of a deal at all... i think IDE is still easy and readily available... no S-ATA for me yet.. (i would consider a 10k raptor drive, but that's it)

You're better off with the PATA drive. XP Installation can be problematic onto an SATA drive. And, unless your talking about a WD Raptor, you'll probably get equal or better performance from the PATA drive.

My serial ATA hard drive worked fine in my XP pro system. I just plugged that sucker in and it worked like a charm. But I guess since I am using an asus 865PE board that helps.
