I was just overclocking my 9700 pro about ten minutes ago. And all of a sudden upon increasing the memory clock, thick "shadow" lines appeared on the screen.

So I was like s*** and put it back to the default speeds (324mhz core and 310.5mhz memory and disabled RivaTune. Shut down the PC and then turned it back on and it was the same...

I shut it back off immedaitely thinking that the GPU might still be hot. Anyways, have I just messed up my card?

And if I have warranty does not cover it (bought 3 weeks ago), does it?

No you didnt. why not just boot your computer and find out.

A guy on TV over clocked his from like 200mhz to 400mhz, the screen went all funky, then he reverted back to normal settings, and everything ran fine. Its not a big deal unless you do it all the time.

I doubt it. Just make sure that RivaTuner or whatever programs don't jump in and crank it up automatically, let it run normally, and you'll be fine.

yes, thanx for the replies.

The only reason I got a little worried (mentioned above) was because I turned my PC ON after I had set it back to stock speeds and it was still the same (lines accross the screen).

After about an hour I boot it back up and everything was fine, I did (again) however overclock the core to 371.25 and the memory to 337.5... If I go any higher on the mem clock, 3dmax03 looks "glitchy" on some of the tests. I'll try to see how far I can take the core up to though.

don't know if yours is "ATI BRAND" or something els , but ATI has great warranty support if your card dies.

Take the "artifacting" speed and lower it 10-15MHz. If you insist on OCing, stay at or below that result.
