crap around mouse pointer

my mouse pointer in win 98 has two rectangles of back dots and i dont know how to get rid of them, i heard once that ito fic mouse probs you check a system file but i cant remember what it was, does anyone know the file or how to fix it.
Any help appreciated

Go to Ctrl Panel, then double-click on Mouse, then click on the Pointers tab. (This is how I get there in Win 2k Pro; the path may be slightly different in Win 98, but you should be able to find it rather easily if it is.) You can select whatever pointer you want from the list. 🙂

Ahhh ... sorry. You didn't say the mouse pointer was malfunctioning. I thought you just wanted to change the way the pointer looked. Sorry I can't be of more help.
