I had a chance today to pick up a BFG 512 GTX but I hesitated and they sold out before I could hit the buy button.

Anyway, I'm not sure what to do. Pick up another 7800 GTX and go SLI or just buy a new 512 GTX.

Selling my 256 GTX isn't an option. My son is going to get it if I replace it with a new card.

God I wish I was your son right now!! I hope he knows what he's getting! :)

I would go with the 7800 512. It's pretty close to SLI scores and since you're conte, plating 7800GTX 256 SLI, the 512 will leave you the option for SLI down the road.

Well just answer me this what game cant you play at native res? with good settings SLI is waste of money your going to regret it considering there is going to be another card coming out and its going to be better than both of your cards in SLI just like what happen when people bought he 6800gt's and 6800ultra's in SLI. maybe if you had a 2405fpw but with a 2005fpw you should be able to handel any game you thow at it.

I'm debating whether to buy a GTX 512 and sell off my current one. I really dislike nvidia's cooling strategy, I think its fking stupid, and the price is a joke, but the perf. is fantastic and I'd like to get one... so... will have to wait and see how the price drops

Option 3. Keep your current GTX and save yourself some money. Do you really need more than what you have now? Take that money you saved and buy yourself something useful or put it towards your son's college fund.

Can't help your thread-crapping little self, can you morph(ine)? The fanATIc runs strong in you...

I agree with Matt2, one 512GTX should get you very close to SLI GTX, plus you can SLI it down the track, plus your son gets a great christmas gift.

And then, he's comtemplating getting the current latest and greatest thing or another 512GTX and you tell him to get the C.L.a.G thing to give him upgrade options down the road.
