cramps at night?

during the night i wake up with horrible horrible cramps in my right calf. this happens about once in every 3-4 weeks and has gone on basically all of this year. it really hurts (yes i expect to get made fun of for complaining) and it makes it so i cant do any hardcore physical activity the next day. is there any way i can stop getting them and are they "bad" for me other than the pain?

i have really strong legs and havent had this problem until earlier this year when i started doing hard leg workouts

Happens to me too. I don't know what causes it.
Sometimes it isn't too bad, but some times it leaves me thrashing in pain for a minute.

It feels like my calf is slowly contracting to the point of tearing. When I get up in the morning my calf is sore and tight like I really worked it the day before.

I really don't understand it. Stupid leg, i'll cut you off!!!

As a note, i'm left handed and it happens with my left calf.
It also hasnt occured for months.
It also seemed to occur more when I was going to school, not working out, but doing lots of walking.

Happens to me too, maybe once every 6 months. I have to bite my cover so I don't start groaning loudly. Despite the pain, you're supposed to straighten it out (it seems like the hardest thing to do in the world) and knead the muscles to allow them oxygen.

I get this every now and again. It seemed to go away for a few years (after I started growing, it seemed), but recently I've had it happen a few times. The downside is, now I can still feel it hurting a few days later (although very faintly).

It sucks getting old(er).

yep my dad has that too, your potassium is too low, they are called charlie horses, so just drink more orange juice and gatorade is real good for you too, im pushing my legs hard right now i hope i dont run into charlie horses D:

The best thing to get rid of the "charlie horse" in the calf is to get out of bed and stand on it.

Thats what I do, except I start walking on it slowly. Almost always goes away for that nite. But walking slowly on it, will cause it to go away.

If you can take up sleep walking, you will almost certainly can get rid of the problem.

i get that too sometimes, and i believe it is normal to have them. Just eat some banana and do stretches, it might help with it if you have it as a chronic problem.
