Alright, I can't seem to figure this out. I'm not that dumb, am I?

I know my craigslist posts are being ghosted. Never showing up. I cannot for the life of me figure out why though. I've tried with phone verified accounts, tried posting with proxies, tried to post to the city that my IP address is located from. I've even tried very innocuous ads just to test them, but they Just.Wont.Show.Up.

Surely there is somewhere here who is a bit of a craigslist master that can lend some guidance?

Are you sure you're completely finishing the posting process? There's been a couple times I thought I was on a confirmation screen and never actually posted it. Make sure you saved AND published it.

Yea I am. I'm almost positive I'm getting ghosted. But I cannot figure out how to NOT get ghosted at this point. I'm pretty much convinced I have to go to more aggressive techniques to get this to work, but I'm not exactly sure what to do.

try posting to a different town. some areas have people that flag similar postings to their own for removal immediately.

Here are a few simple steps to prevent your ads from being ghosted:
While these are some general rules described by Craigslist as what they would like you to do, it doesn't mean that this will help you every time for the reasons I just mentioned.

1- Don't post more often than once a week. (how many times do you see people break this rule and get away with it?)

2- If you are going to post more often than once a week, or post in multiple locations, be sure to use a proxy or change your IP address. (my suggestion, not theirs)

3- Don't use the same wording in your ads. Get a thesaurus and learn how to say the same thing in a million ways. If they catch the same phrases being used too many times, you are considered a spammer. (Again, this happens all the time with no action taken, but you don't want to be the one they chose to make an example of)

4- Don't use HTML codes in your posts. If you link to outside websites that is going to attract their attention and make your a target for ghosting. How is it that some people use links and have no problems? I hear you asking. That is where the heavy handedness of Craigslist comes into play. They decide who gets to stay and who must go. There is no rhyme or reason for it. If you want to use a web address then break it up. Like My main website is howtobeatcraigslist.uni.cc but you can post "how to beatcraigslist. uni.cc" and just explain that they need to remove the spaces to visit your site.

5- If you are going to post images in your posts limit it to only a few pictures and don't use certain file hosting sites. At certain times they decide some places are not to their liking so you may have to change around. I know for a while they didn't like Photobucket. Try Imageshack, Google images, or whatever other place your can find.

6- Be prepared to have to create multiple accounts and have multiple emails and so forth. Multiple emails, phone numers, accounts, etc can be your best friend. I spell this out in great detail on may main site. You can also use web redirects and proxies at your pleasure.

There are many more ways to prevent your posts from being ghosted but I can't go into all of them here. Since this is a public blog site and there are certain rules that must be abided by I can only give you a small list of what can be done. If you would like a much more detailed list I suggest your read my personal blog where I go into greater detail and explain just how you can post as much as you want on Craigslist without any problems of being ghosted or being banned.

I heard the M4T ads get pulled pretty quick lol. Totally kidding, I had the same problem trying to sell some paintball stuff awhile back. I ended up using a different email address to get it working

Yea, I've read that before.

It seems like I need to get a good proxy service. Any suggestions for something that is free but quality? If I need to pay, so be it.

Sorry, I don't. I'd suggest searching the net or just getting a new email address and not spamming craigslist as they will stop you from spamming them by ghosting your email addy, IP address or whatever other method they use to stop spammers.

Interesting site you have there at LuckyLoot. Good luck to you.

You could get a vpn. You'd have to pay, but they're nice to have anyway, especially if you do important/sensitive work on the go.

Is that all I need? I'm looking for the full solution here. I don' tmind spending money if I can figure out how to get my stuff to stick on craigslist. Really looking for someone who has some experience in this area.

Why are they doing this? Why don't they just tell you what's wrong with the add and not post it until the problem is rectified?

What's the advantage of deceiving the people?

If you guys help him spam craigslist, they are just going to crack down harder on spammers.

Someone please explain (in street-speak) what "ghosting" is? I just posted a WTB the other day and after going through the email confirm it posted right away and I started getting replies almost immediately.

Spam? Who said anything about spamming? There are plenty of legitimate posters who aren't spammers and still have their stuff ghosted.

Thanks for the link ... it is interesting reading. I found this thought-provoking:

"It’s a sneaky way they found to get rid of people they don’t want posting on Craigslist."

I wonder why CL would not want the OP to post? OP, I've bought a LOT on CL but the place is becoming flakier by the day. I've posted a WTB ... got responses ... responded to those emails ... and now not one seller even has the decency (or energy I guess???) to respond back.

The only positive benefit of CL is the exposure that you get for free ... if you can traverse the minefield full of idiots and morons.

Good luck ...

My biggest problem with Craigslist (really the people) is that there are so many people that contact you saying they want the item and sometimes you even talk with them on the phone and they are 100% coming to get it and then you never hear from them again.. no text, email, call.. nothing. I just don't understand it.. why not a simple text saying "changed my mind.. no longer want it".

Funny. This is my biggest pet peeve too. I am totally dumfounded how many ignorant and just rude people there are out there. I've started calling them out (I don't know why) and asking why they wouldn't just tell me they are not going to be able to make it (or something similar) and now they want to fight, etc. First off, what causes people to think they don't need to extend the same courtesy because it's Craigslist, as a regular face to face deal? Secondly, why do so many people not follow through in general?

Another one that pisses me off is when the person emails you one question at a time asking things like "where are you located", "home much is it", "what color", etc when all that info is right in my fs posting..

I had one guy get all mad cause I called him out and told him to read my ad. He says "i no longer want the item since your being like that".. bitch you weren't going to buy my item anyway.. go **** yourself.

Alright - I have figured out a lot of what I need to figure out. There is one last problem. Phone verified accounts. If I want to post in Chicago, I have to have a chicago area code phone #. Further, it cannot be a voice over ip OR prepaid phone number. So if I have one of those, or an out of area phone number, I cannot post in that city.

I know this may be going down a rabbit hole, but is there anyone here who would like to explore the different options we have to getting a phone verified account? We may be delving into morally gray areas, but I'd like to have the discussion if others are interested.

My theory is that these people do it to get your email address, to sell to junk mail senders. Just delete their messages.

the worst is when you post a price. They say they'll meet up and when you do they say, "oh I only brought 80% of the listed price"

Now I understand if you bargain before and settle on a price. That's fine but to just show up without the amount is lame. Waste of time.
