Numerous times when I sell items on Craigslist, I will get an email from someone saying they are interested and give me their phone number. I give them a call, we agree on a price and they say they will call me back later when they are headed out to come pick it up. 9/10 times they never call back. WTF are people this fucking flakey?

That's typical Craigslist behavior. I normally dictate to people when they can come out and pick it up instead of leaving it in their hands. If they have a problem with it, tough. If multiple people want it, then whoever shows up first gets it. I do at least make sure to notify other interested parties once it sells so they don't make an unnecessary trip.

I've been trying to sell my old projector and I've been 3 for 3 on no-shows for the demo. :(

Cragislist is rarely worth the hassle to me. 9/10 times I have someone give me an offer through email or on the phone and I accept. Then when they show up, they proceed to nickle and dime me to death. Now all of my prices are firm and if they show up w/ an offer even $1 less I'll turn them away just for principle.

I called to inquire about an item 3 weeks ago. I told the lady I was headed for Lowes for parts and I'd be by later that afternoon...I never made it...never called back. <shrug>

Yeah that drives me nuts as well. Agree on a price before meeting, then they try to talk you down in person.

I use CL alot and haven't had anything too terrible happen yet. I can spot the time waster emails and spam, and just don't reply to either.
I state cash only, and that the price is firm and when and where to meet.
I've bought and sold probably around 50 items in the last two years and have had nothing but good experiences.

As an aside, I like the people who state in their ad "NO SCAMS! or NO SPAMMERS!"
Yeah, that really stops them. :)

Maybe you should include the following in your next ad:

1. I'm a 14 year old girl
2. My parents are away on vacation

That should stem the tide of no-shows.

Why don't you have a seat over there?

Now buy this projector and nobody has to be taken away in handcuffs. :awe:

Oh, and leave the "Mike's Hard Lemonade"

I've never had a problem. Everything someone's agreed to buy, they've come and picked up. Granted, a couple times, people were an hour or so late. Sometimes, the fault lies with their Tom-Tom or other GPS direction toy. (I can always tell when they come from the opposite direction on my road.)
Tip: "shortest route" out in the middle of nowhere is no where near the quickest route. Drive the extra 20 miles - it'll save you an hour.

And, everything I've ever purchased, I've picked up reasonably close to when I said I'd arrive. I think my average drive time has been about 2 hours, so there's a bit of deviation from the exact time.
