Craigslist is full of chumps with slickdeals items for the same price as new from a reputable store with warranty or inflated compared to what they would get on ebay after fees, s&h etc. At least on ebay/store, you can return or get your money back if the item has problems. On craigslist? Nope.

Welcome to Whenever CL Was Created. 87.75% of the people that post an ad there TRULY have no idea of:

1. What the fuck they just put up for sale/trade/consignment/fingermyassandyoucanhaveit
2. The fact that if you put your address on the internet, people will come to your house
3. PayPal. ATM fees.
4. The internet is real life. If you post a picture of your 24 year old blond, blue eyed, 104 pound sister in your new Ford pickup truck as collateral for a sump pump and I win it, I'm calling my lawyer and giving your sister some knee pads and a neck brace.

It's serious business, people!

This is why I love dealing with children on forums. Everybody here thinks they know so much about everything.

I have nothing but good experience in CL over the years:

1. Sold my old ass system for $250 (worth less than half that), and built a new one for $500.
2. Sold my 1 yr old monitor there for same price as on Amazon.
3. Found a good mover
4. Sold my Blackberry for $150.

So you found a technologically challenged gramps selling his old computer on CL, and you consider this free, easy to use service garbage, when there are plenty of other worthy items on there?

I make craigslist a better place by staying true to the founder's intentions. When a buyer agrees to purchase computer hardware from me I always ask if there is something else they need. I always throw in something extra for free. I have so much extra stuff that I feel better giving it away rather than trying to sell it for a couple bucks.

why piece one together or even look on craigslist? For 200 bucks more you can get this. damn cheap if you ask me and will do everything your old lady would want.

There's still a lot of good stuff to be found and a good place to sell. I sold 4 things this year totaling around $300. You have to look hard, it has lot of potential and very useful. Even if it has 50% bull dung, the rest 50% is useful, look at the glass half full.

IMO Ebay is a joke and Craigslist is great for me.

I usually sell/give away larger items that are harder to ship. NO FEES, all transactions in cash.

I have used it more than 40 times for various things and have never had serious problems with it. It is a local-ish service, so if your locality is a shithole, then Craigslist will reflect that. I have never had issues on CL in Santa Fe/ABQ, Reno, Columbus/OH.

Agree that there is lots of "noise" among the good ads, but the onus lies on the buyer to filter that out.

My mouse has more computing power than that thing does. :awe:

(Well...maybe. It's more useful though.)

People probably don't understand how a computer depreciates in value.
And the fact that the depreciation will go negative, where you'd have to pay someone money so that they'd take the thing from you.

I like the part where it comes with Windows ME.
"Vehicle for sale: Runs great, 534,392 miles, $25000 new. Selling for $2500. Already installed: A family of rabid sociopathic racoons lives in the trunk."

There was a similar thread to this awhile back. I'm pretty sure I posted that this predates craigslist and even the internet. I distinctly remember these kinds of ads in the local news paper during the early 90s. And I'm sure some one probably read an ad for a bone tipped spear that was written on a stone tablet during the bronze age once.

They're still kind of funny though. I think the worst part about this one is that not only is the computer essentially worth $0 since it rocks Windows ME, the included monitor is actually worth -(whatever it costs to dispose of at the local dump) since its a CRT and you can't even give those away unless anymore. It does comes with a keyborad however.

Although that advert is hilarious, guess what? It would be hilarious anywhere it was posted. People love to hate on CL but they're really hating on people and bartering in general. CL is no different than the classified section of the newspaper. Which for years and years was the only way to buy used stuff. Well, that's not true. You had garage sales and flea markets, and things called "swap meets." Guess what, in both of those venues, you find absolute steals, and people who think their own shit doesn't stink and who would try to sell you a 10 year old computer for $100.

I'm convinced that people who hate Craigslist, are waiting for a website that assigns a specific "deal hunter" person just for them, who will go out door-to-door and find the exact chump who will buy or sell their shit for more/less than it's worth. This individual will filter out all of the bad candidates for you and find exactly what you need for a good price, nearly instantaneously. This is what the OP wants instead of CL.

Oh, and this service would of course be free.
