Craigslist... how do you "transact"?

I was just contemplating this - how do you all generally deal with craigslist transactions? I'm hesitant to go anywhere in the event that it's a thug setup and I'm going to get the shit beat out of me in the process. But then again, in the same vein I'd be leery of giving out my address and have a van-load of asshats jump me at my own door and rob the place, let alone a single person case my house for later "use".

That leaves meeting in a neutral location - which I feel is gheyness extreme. So does that mean that cheezbergur is the right answer?

Depending on the item I usually meet someone that works for both me and them. A public place like a grocery store parking lot or something. I've never had any problems.

I've only sold one thing, and it was a bunk bed, so they came to me. I've gone to them for everything else.

Really depends on the object. If it is free, you go to them. If it is big, you go to them. If it is a really hot deal and there are more offers, you should go to them.

Anything else meet at a park or something.

I have dropped off an old tv (it was on my way to work) and sold a laptop at a neutral location.

Food court at the mall is a good place

do not do it at some parking lot late at night. Best to do it where alot of people are around.

I usually have the buyer come to the seller. Last three or four items I've bought/sold have worked this way. I don't necessarily let them come in; they just wait outside and I bring the thing out, unless it's too big for that.

The advantage is I don't have to go anywhere if I'm selling something. Disadvantage is it gives them an excuse not to show up when you say "drop by when you can" rather than "meet me at X location at Y time."

I'm really not sure which option works for me, since it's always been the buyer goes to the seller.

I've purchased a number of things & always picked them up at the seller's house. I suppose it's worth noting that none of those items would fit in a car. In fact, I was just contemplating buying a 40 foot hay elevator. Having someone transport that to a neutral location would be just retarded. And, all the things I've sold needed to be picked up from my place - for those sales, I'd refuse to meet in a neutral location. In fact, I lost a sale because someone 20 miles away wanted me to meet them half way so they could save on gas or something. No problem - I'll still make the sale.

Lure them... err... ask them to your place. Be armed.

Buyer goes to seller.
You go check it out first, see if you like it just like if you were to buy anything else at the store.
Poll sucks btw.

If its that much of an issue then I don't think you should sell stuff on there. FFS, you actually used the phrase "gheyness extreme".

I work nights so I generally have people come to my office and pick up the item. It works well because they are usually on their way home from work and I'm stuck here.

Last dozen or so Craigslist sales we've done....if it was expensive and big, I delivered and had no problems (24HP lawn tractor/mower and a 20' above ground pool.) The rest were met in mutually agreed upon location, such as a Home Depot parking lot or the like. Never had a problem.
