It's all in the title, I want to search craigs list nation wide, and can't figure out how to do it. What am I missing?

Say you're searching for an outboard motor, you'd go to Google and search like this:

outboard motor site:craigslist.org

The only bad thing about the google search is that if it's a good deal, it might be sold before it's ever indexed by google.

Or as ive found out... people selling small items on craigslist are unwilling to deal with non local individuals.

they are called craigslist aggregators.

Some are more thorough than others.

using google is not the most reliable or real time method.
