Craiglist scam, do you know about this??

Ok I know most here know about eBay/Craiglist scams but this one seems to be getting a few people I have seen on other boards.

Its the gift card scam and this is how it works.
The way it works is someone steals a credit card and buys lots of gift cards. They then sell them for cash at craigslist/eBay. You, the buyer, then try to use them. Either they will be reported by the time you try to use them or you use them and when caught will have anything you got taken as its considered stolen goods.

I just saw this ad and red flags went...

so I posted this...

So again i know most here might not fall for that but it seems to be picking up I have noticed and I have seen others at wood sites lose money and some at other sites talk about this as being a good thing.

they could also just be unactivated and stolen. They have racks of these things in every store you walk into..worthless unless purchased.

No I should have added the person will let you meet them at the store and scan the card. They usually get to the store before you to make sure they are still good. If not then you will be stood up.

Also if you try to move the funds to another card any thing attached to the first illegal card will be voided and will be a stolen good.

yea but if you buy a GC without checking it then you are even dumber then someone that falls for what I posted. 😛

On a similar note... I've seen gift cards sell for over their face value on Ebay. Do any of you know why that would be?

think about it..he is posting on craigslist.. I bet if you called he would take 1/2 value on any of the cards.

If he meets you at the store, pay him 50% of the value, use the card in the next 10 minutes... everyone wins. The scammer has money for drugs and you have a nice new laptop for cheap.

That was the conclusion I came to, but thought I might be missing something. Maybe I'll go into business selling $5 bills. I'll have a $7 reserve, and a $10 buy it now price. Free standard shipping anywhere in the USA, and $3 insured shipping :^D

it's true. I was looking at canon lenses and bids started around $210... people were manually sniping each other (last few minutes) in many auctions throughout 2 days... prices ended at $320 + shipping for USED (no warranty). There was another listing from a reputable storefront for Buy It Now $299 free ship BRAND NEW that's been there the whole time, and always is. I jumped on it and am very happy with it - not a scam. It's just funny seeing how people are so willing to put effort in getting a deal but don't actually get a deal.

Also if this was around Christmas then the Live 25-30% discount wass the reason for all the BiN's for over face value.

Another thing is someone hack into someone paypal account and will pay what ever it takes to get the card.

And, again, it still be stolen goods.

Since when can you buy a gift card with another gift card?

I've done it at a few different stores. They say you can't on the cards but the people at the register just don't care.

Mostly because those people don't have access to the cards. They send them as gifts more than likely.
