Crackling sound!

I'm not sure if it is the game's fault, or something else.

I can listen to music, or play any other games with pretty good quality sound.

But when I run BF2, there are always some crackling, or incontinuous (like a bad CD) sound. In the Audio Options in the game, I get to pick Software (Low, Med, High) and Hardware (Low, Med, High), when I pick software, that's where the cracking come from. When I pick the hardware, everything is fine, no cracking or anything... Untill I join a game, and the sound sources are all messed up, like I can see a tank from far far away, and it SOUNDS like it's just next to me.

So, can u plz assist me on fixing either the software (stop the cracklings), or the hardware (fix the correct sound source), or even both :p

Hey Slightdust,

What are you using as a sound solution? Do you have an add-on card (Audigy/Live/Turtle Beach/etc..) or are you using on-board sound (whatever is built into your motherboard)?

It's a little hard to help you without all the details.

Ohhh...

Okay, you have 2 choices.

1) Upgrade the drivers for your AC'97 solution and hope for the best.

2) Get an add-on soundcard.

The AC97 solutions are ok most of the time, but they are really limited in capability. I've tried using my motherboards realtek codec for fun, and I was not impressed by the results.

If you do get an add-on card, spend wisely and do your homework. Soundblaster is really good at games and so-so at music. The others (m-audio, etc.) are awesome at music and so-so at games. Research is key, and don't base your decision on one review/recommendation (i.e. me).

Most games (especially BF2) are written for Soundblaster (EAX) as the competitors keep folding or get bought out (aureal A3D).

But...why ONLY BF2 has this problem? Any other games, including the new ones such as the FEAR demo, don't have the crackling...

And when I pick Hardware audio in game, the crackings are gone...I'm repaeting the problem again...

I updated the driver, doesn't work.

Read my computer specs in my sig, I have the same problem. I really never bothered to update the drivers since all other games worked fine. BF2 has always done this with this onboard soundcard, but not my old onboard soundcard... odd.

You can try to turn off EAX and that might work, but it sounds like there's still going to be an incompatibility.

I have the Realtek AC'97 onboard sound too (I haven't put my Mystique sound card in yet), but I don't get any problems with audio at all.. and I play BF2 online all the time now.

It's funny that you mention that issue since my friend gets the same problem with his onboard solution. Maybe it's with the new boards, but I'm not sure. I'm using an Nforce 2 board with the Realtek solution and everything sounds fine in that respect.

Onboard sounds also decreased framerate. You can gain 5-10 FPS in some games by getting a addon soundcard. I had Realtek AC'97 onboard sound in my last motherboard and replaced with a 7 year old soundblast soundcard. I didn't notice any difference in sound quality but I gained 5 FPS in a few of the games I was playing at the time. Now I have a Soundblaster Live! 5.1, its not the best but it gets the job done considering I only have a 2:1 setup.

try decreasing the acceleration. ctrl+r > dxdiag > sound > move acceleration tab down a level > test > see if that works > if not > try a level lower > if still continues > buy a chaintech av-710 > i dont know > why im still > doing this > help >>>>>
