Crackling Sound?

Hi folks,

I've been having a problem with my new PC with crackling speakers, especially when playing MP3s or DVD movies.

My setup is:
Celeron 2.4
5.1 Speakers
Onboard sound on my SiS800 chipset (i think that's what it's called). ANyway, the sound is SoundMAX digital audio.

I've tried mucking around with software settings but to no avail.

Any ideas?

I remember I had this problem about 5 years ago on an old P2, andi fixed it. Cant remember how to fix it again!

Any help?

Thanks,
Pie

Sound is probably analog not digital. Test your speakers with a portable CD player. If that works you know the problem is the integrated audio.

This can sometimes be caused by IRQ conflicts- remove any PCI cards and see if it goes away. If so, replace each card one by one, and note which one causes the problem to come back. Once the offending card is found, move it to a different slot and test.

The problem is you're using the onboard sound 😛. Anyways, I had this problem with my onboard and I upgraded to a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, now I hear no crackling anymore 🙂

Well, my SB Live is prone to crackling only when EAX 1.0 is enabled. When EAX 2.0+ is used, I hear no crackling....WTH?

I had this issue with onboard sound, it was a design defect in the mobo, I got a Audigy 2 and life is now sweet.
