I had a user PC with that very same issue, and it had a lot of important data. I tried to do the recovery steps, but to no avail.

I ended up hooking the HD up to another Win2K box, copying all data I needed to save, then re-installing the HD and doing a fresh install of Win2K and all the apps that was on it. 6 hours later, it was back up and running.

Bleep, I hope you have better luck than I did! :)

Unforgiven: well I was looking at that and nothing seemed to work it would not boot from my emergency disk which I just figured out is corrupt. I made a new one from another machine and when it booted from the A drive it said invalid system disk-remove disk and press any key. I did this and the darn thing booted , pretty strange but seems to be OK not, I may have got a little ahead of myself posting but thanks for the advice.
