Crack in my windshield

I drove the car on Friday to work, and there was no crack. I drove the car for a few minutes on Sunday, and again there was no crack.

This morning as I'm about to leave for work, I notice a crack in my windshield about 1-1.5 ft long. One of my buddies had a small crack (1-2 inches) in his car a while ago, and he paid a crack-repair company to fill it in for $60. I'm thinking that this crack I have is too big to be filled in, and the windshield probably needs to be replaced.

How much does it typically cost to have a windshield replaced?
 
The rule I have heard repeatedly is that if the crack is longer than a dollar-bill, then the windshield needs to be replaced.

That said, they can often times fix the crack (or chip) if it is shorter than this guideline.

The cost for replacing your windshield may be different depending on the state you live in too. I am in MN, and state law mandates free windshield replacement for all cars with insurance (which is also mandated). I don't remeber if the law covers liability coverage or not, but I know it covers full-coverage.

The coverage is pretty cool, and they will replace it at your house, work, etc. for free. If you do have to pay out of pocket, I would expect it should be somewhere around $150-250 or so. Good luck.
 
I had my windshield replaced as an insurance claim. Deductible was waived, and the shop charged Allstate $314. This was a Corolla.

I've heard cracks can be stop-drilled to prevent further lengthening of the fracture.
 
DOes your insurance cover it? I have no idea why people do not include glass coverage. It's usually only $10-$15 with no deductible.
 
1 to 1.5 foot long crack? Then the time to replace the windshield is right now, because it'll only get worse.
 
have full coverage? Im pretty sure here in FL if you have full coverage, first time its free.

or you can get behind a big construction truck on the interstate get the number on the back and call and say somthin flew off the back of the truck and cracked yo shit :evil:

Yea, I'm thinking at this point, I have to change it. I'm going to check with my insurance later tonight to see if it's covered.

Yea 1'-1.5' is too long to fix.
 
In Michigan, you can be ticketed for impaired vision (or something similar to that) for having a cracked windshield in the drivers line of vision.

I think you'd pretty much have to be pulled over for something else to get nailed for it. You just can't see cracks in someone's windshield when driving down the road.
