Crab Rangoon?

I can't get enough of this stuff, which means its probably really bad for you. The local delivery place here gives 8 pieces for $2.00 so I always order some with my szechuan beef/chicken lo mein/general tso etc. What exactly is in it though...methinks its the imitation crab?

Right now I'm eating some straight from the fridge--its surprisingly really good even when cold!

I've made it once before - fairly simple. I think I just softened cream cheese and mixed in some imitation crab. Follow the standard wonton proceedure after that (half a tablespoon in the middle of a wonton wrapper, moisten two edges with water, fold over to make a triangle, squeezing all the air out). Then deep ,fry, they cook pretty fast.

I make my own, and they are awesome!

Here's what is in mine:
Imitation Crab Meat (real if I'm making them for something special)
Cream Cheese
Green Onion
Garlic Powder

Would that be called, "Beyond Crab Rangoon"?

whats in it? i love em. that was the first chinese, non chicken / (cat) 🙂 thing i ever ate.

JB

edit. im an idiot, i quoted the answer to my question.

All the crab rangoon I've ever seen has had a decided lack of crab. You could say that it had a dearth of crab. In many cases, I wold go so far as to say that there was hardly any crab at all.

But did it make up for the crab with a copious amount, a surplus, or a glut of rangoon?

Ditto for me, except I skip the meat. You really can't taste it anways among all that other stuff. Its easier (usually you'll have all that anyways in your fridge) and cheaper (even imitation crab is expensive).

There is a local place that actually uses crab meat in theirs. It's surprising how different it tastes when there is less cream cheese and more real crab.

I am kind of on a pot sticker kick. I've always liked them but lately I've just really wanted them more than crab rangoon.

I wish all restaurants had PF Chang's singapore street dumplings. Holy crap are those things good...

If I were Godzilla, I think a neat cullinary project would be to make crab rangoon with actual Rangoon.
