cPVA and eIPS panels?

Ika

With the recent upcropping of economical non-TN panels, in the form of cPVA and eIPS, I've given considerable thought to making a second monitor purchase, to either supplement or replace this horrid TN I have (Samsung 216BW). Right now the top choices seem to be eIPS panels (three models or so, around $330 each), and this one cPVA panel (Samsung F2380, ~$240). These are CHEAP - cheap enough that I'm extremely close to pulling the trigger. Does anyone know of any downsides to purchasing these newer, more economical panels? I'm primarily a gamer, so response time is rather important, but viewing angle and color issues are really bugging me on this monitor.

Shitty response time tends to make PVA screens a pretty hard sell for gamers.

IPS panels have nice viewing angles and color reproduction, often without ridiculous response times.

All this info is quite apparent in "The LCD Thread," though; xtknight did a damned fine job with it.

eIPS is the way to go! i don't own one yet, but i haven't been able to find a single documented drawback. It's the future of mainstream display technology. 🙂 Of course if response time isn't a factor, the cPVA panels may have slightly better color reproduction.

I don't know why response time is stated so much as a reson to dislike no-tn panels. í have an old dell 2405 and have played all types of games on it with no problems.
