I no the new fx-60's are comming out jan 10. I am in the market for a good gaming/OC cpu. I was planning on getting the
AMD Opteron 175 Denmark 1GHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor
I was wondering if I should wait untill the new fx come out because these will drop in price or if I should get something else. i would prefer to spend around $500. I will spend more if there is something way better but from my understanding this is a good cpu and can overclock well. thanks

Hmm, I don't really think the introduction of the FX-60 is going to press prices of the Opterons (BTW that FX-60 is going to cost more than double your $ 500)... You can without a doubt take the Opty and overclock it... Maybe buy yourself a very decent cooler with that...

Some great ones... (read the sticky about them in the Case & Cooling section)

- ThermalTake Big Typhoon and Blue Orb II
- ThermalRight XP-120 and SI-120
- Arctic Cooling Freezer 64
- Zalman CNPS7700-Cu and CNPS9500-Cu

The AC Freezer is by far the best bang for the buck, performing as good as the others, while costing considerably less...

Hehe, okay that should suffice... LOL :p

With that you should be able to hit some 2.8 - 3.0GHz with your Opteron... Take it! ;)

If you want a skt 939 Opteron I'd make your move soon... AMD is in the process of making them much harder to get & I'd bet prices will be going up in the short-term at least... just ordered a 170 myself!
