ok i know that the newer cpu's by both amd and intel claim to have on die cache but is that only the L1 that is on-die or is both the L2 and L1 on die ??
i was checking this out about the P4's new northwood

and i noticed (just like with the athlon) there are little SMD type chips connected to the cpu package
my question is are those the L2 cache like i have heard some people claim ?? or are they something else

Both the P4 and Athlon XP have on die L1 and L2 cache. The small IC's are not the cache, they are there for some other purpose. Maybe someone can expalain exactly what they are there for?!?

anyone know if what those are on the undercarage of the P4 and topside of the athlon ???
little orange things

Those are Capacitors. SMT Type. The closer they are to the Die the better.
