read what the nice people from CPUidle have to say about support for us WinME users-

Probably never, sorry.

windows ME already does this on its own.. there is a CPU cooling algorithm built into ACPI components in windows ME... if you have ACPI turned off then of course you won't benefit from it.. and I'm guessing if CPUidle doesn't support windows ME, then the reasoning behind it is that windows ME does the same thing by itself.

well your mobo has to support it.. it should be in the bios. if you install without it enabled in the bios, or without a mobo that supports it. then windows ME will install as a standard PC and leave out the acpi stuff.

is ACPI the power management in bios? if so, i have it set to user define and everything disabled like hard drives and monitor and the suspend mode. if i set this to max will that help my CPU run cooler?

i looked in device manager and there is all kinds of stuff there dealing with ACPI so i think it installed it.

hmmm... how hot exactly is your cpu running? ive got a tbird 900@1022 and idle it runs around 78F gets up to about 107 full load. thats reported temps using motherboard monitor 5. I ran win98 and win2k(with acpi disabled) and my idle temps were 98F so in windows ME its 20F cooler at idle. I don't think the hard drives or monitor settings effect it.. some bios versions will let you turn off ACPI and some won't. I can't turn mine off so I'm not sure what the settings would be to disable it enable it.. but I would try playing with the settings. if your using the asus probe, keep in mind that it can be a bit flaky or so I have heard.

yeah i would say, man my temps are much higher using the asus probe. 120 degrees right now with IE 5.5 and outlook running, which i understand does stress CPU's. i always suspected it was wrong. thank you for your help
