do you have any kind of monitoring software such as motherboard monitor (do a search for it) that gives you the temperatures. I dont really know how to fix it but that may help people figure out what the problem is, because almost all laptops get pretty hot on your lap.

Have you reinstalled the OS lately?

OS issues tend to not cause shutdowns. A simple way to test that out would be to leave the sony sitting in the bios. If it shuts down there, you know you have a hardware issue for certain. As for swapping CPU's, I don't think you can necessarity go from a P4 mobile to a P4M.
