CPU-Z shows different CPU core freqencies

I understand Speedstepping could cause this so that has been disabled in bios but the CPU still downclocks when it isn't under a load.

Is this an issue? How can I, and should I rectify this problem to lock the frequency?

When your reading my response to your question does your cpu need to be ballz to the wall?

Didn't think so. The throttling down doesn't hurt your overall performance at all as the cores will ramp up with demand.

Your CPU/MB specs may be of some use to others if you really need to read my post at full speed 🙂

How quick is speedstep to speed up?
Instant. It doesn't "speed up" it simply changes the multiplier to it's normal setting. So, instant.
How long does it maintain the higher clock?
As long as it needs to. Until the processor is no longer under load.

@OP: If individual cores are at different speeds (especially with them increasing) that sounds more like Turbo than Speedstep. Disabling EIST won't disable Turbo Boost. More info about your setup could help determine this however.

It's not "instant", there is a few microseconds of latency between each step, as the mobo waits for the vcore adjustment (that corresponds with the adjusted multiplier) to stabilize.

Latency-sensitive operations, like audio recording, should disable SpeedStep entirely.

I forgot one thing about my questions. I use Mame and for hte CPU to be changing speeds under emulation could suck.

But Mame runs at 100% CPU utilization usually so I should have little to worry about 🙂
