CPU Won't Post

I recently purchased http://www.newegg.com/product/...p?item=N82E16813130071 that along with http://www.newegg.com/product/...p?item=N82E16819103749 that, and I tried it outside of the case with just the motherboard and the CPU and the indicator that you attacth to the motherboard reads 4 red lights, which indicates a dead CPU. Should I just RMA the cpu to newegg or is it possible that it is the motherboard?

Is this a new build? If so, what RAM are you trying to use? And the answer to your question is that it could be either, but it's more likely the motherboard.

oh and I tried it without the ram in it, and it still said the cpu was dead

Did you plug in the 4 or 8 pin CPU power plug next to the socket? BTDT
