CPU won't fit in MOBO

Hello,

I got my computer parts and tried to build my computer and ran into a little problem... My CPU will not go into the socket... It's a Core 2 Duo 6400 and a Gigabyte DS3 mainboard. I dont know whats up. The CPU can only fit in one way and thats the way I did. Do I need to press down harder? Mind you this was the second time I've done this. SO whats going on? Should I send it back to newegg? DOA or bent pins? Is it my proc or mobo? or both!? Please help me, this is so F%^*$&&*^T^&%%$$%^** annoying. I just wanted to build it with no difficulties...
 
Well when i was trying to install it I did notice that the back was a bit odd. My last computer was an AMD 939 socket chip and this proc didnt look like anyting like it. So i woudl say yes. Core 2 Duo doesnt have any pins. So what does this mean? That my motherboard is screwed up not my cpu? God im so annoyed. I dont want to wait a month to remanufacture the parts.

I don't know...does your processor have pins? If so, then they do. If not...then they don't. 😕

As you can see we're all mainly AMD fanboys :laugh:
 
I was an AMD fanboy until Intel came out with the core 2 duo structure. 230 bucks for a cpu that can outperform the highest of AMD chips is hard to resist... So whats going on? Do i need to just push harder or return the chip? mobo?
 
No pins on that CPU, once the notch in the CPU is aligned with the notch in the socket itself the CPU should drop into place, then you just close the retention socket.

If you still can't get it to fit, post some pics! I will say it should require 0 force to install this CPU into that socket, it drops into place. It does however take a worrying amount of force to push the lever down and lock the socket lid shut.
 
Read the god damn instructions! First of all the cpu has NO PINS so what are you talking about bent pins??? Secondly if you even take a minute to look into the installation instructions youll see that first you take off the plastic housing protecting the pins on the motherboard itself and open the retention socket. Second you place the cpu into the socket and close the retention socket on it (takes a bit of force). Third... viola your done, not too hard i would assume
 
i did do they silly. Do you really think i would try to install a computer part without reading the directions? Anyways... I did fiddle with lever and maybe all i need to do is push down the lever with force... I was waiting to hear a click or feel the cpu lock into the socket, but i guess thats not what happens. So when I get home from school today, ill try just closing the lever and see what happens...

Very true.
You are installing the CPU UNDER the retention clamp... correct? :roll:

Make sure you have the notches lined up correcty between the CPU and the socket itself.

Man. People will say some awful things just to feel good about themselves. I knew that there werent pins on the proc due to looking at it, its just that a common problem are bent pins on the mobo or proc. Or so i heard. Maybe i heard incorrectly... Lay off and stop being so anal about things. I just dont want to be responsible for breaking 400 dollars of my own equipment.

actually it didn't seem to take any force at all. I needed much more force with my socket939 system to lock it down. At least it felt that way.
