I have an artic freezer pro 64 mounted on an x2 4400+. Under full load my machine reads 62C with a fan blowing on the system with the door open. Why is it so hot. I touched the headsink and it is hot to the touch. Its not burning, I can leave my hand on it and it will not burn me.

Edit: Full system in rig

Edit2: I've seen http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=37&threadid=1903638&enterthread=y
I checked the AMD site and they saw the max temp is 65C, has anyone gone over this limit?

A hot heatsink = a good sign. This means that heat is properly going from your CPU into your heatsink. If your heatsink was cold it would mean that it wasnt seated properly, and dissipating heat. You may have just gotten an unusually hot proc :(

dual cores do tend to produce a lot of heat. I think these temps are actually....normal.

I wouldn't agree with that.

I have a 4400+, stock voltage, at 2.4Ghz, it has a scythe ninja on there, with a 12cm fan at 800ish rpm. During the last few months, room temperature was apparently up to about 28, and my idle temps had wafted up to something like 37-38.

Normally my room is apparently about 18-19, and then it idles much, much lower, at about 23-25.

Either way, I'd say that if your room temp is 30, your case temp could easily be say 35, meaning your heatsink hasn't got a lot of cool air to work with.

I forget the law (law of thermodynamics? i dno), but common sense will do, the bigger the difference between the temp of the air flowing over the heatsink and the temp of the heatsink the better it will cool. It will be having a hard time cooling the CPU with such a high case temp. The tmeps aren't normal, but it could just be a combo of a slightly hot running chip, and some high case temps...

If it starts to go over 65 for long periods, I'd consider some better cooling, or air conditioning :p

P.S That's with Cool n Quiet on btw, and before you say, OMGWTFCnQ+OC, can I just say, it works fine, leave me be.

I have my proc OCed. I guess its time to take it back to stock, at least until the weather cools down.

Yeah, my opteron 170 was at 2667, but when it got hot I throttled it back to 2500. Now that I moved and installed my window air conditioner its back up to 2667. Summer Heat can screw an OC for a few months
