CPU Vs. Real Life

I swear, if there were not tags, it would take me a while before i could figure out which one was a screenshot of Crysis and which was real life.

R, although quite nice. Hopefully they focus on gameplay as well like they did with Far Cry.

EDIT: And it isn't that hard to tell. Just look at the ocean and grass.

That's pretty damn cool. That's a game?

that's what I thought, it's way better than 3DMark03 visuals, it's like playing an ATI demo with a control pad... except of course the picture is still, we need to see this in real time.

Eh? They have videos of Crysis now. Maybe not the exact scenes but still good enough to show you what the people at CryTek are capable of.

It's really good, but it's pretty easy to tell the difference IMHO.

The shape of everything is too perfect and too predictable.

Plus, it will be decades yet before they can render a realistic jungle. Props to Crytek for getting so close, though...it's incredibly hard.

Eugh, look at the grass in the bottom right shot. Truly terrible. Besides that, though, I don't think I could tell the difference without the tags.

Yeah, the plants are still too obvious.

for computer graphics, I think it's pretty stunning. I mean, one day computer graphics will look so realistic in "modern" real time 3D, it will still be considered art just to make grass look a little fake but almost photo realistic at the same time.

well, I know they've rendered whole jungles and other sets, it's just not compatible with modern equipment, is why we don't see so much of it at this point in time.

in the movie, Other Side of Heaven, which is a Christian flick, they rendered whole sets of waves. Lord of the Rings, used hundreds of computers with massive workstation cards to render each frame of all of the 3 movies. to see a game with this stuff, the closest thing that's out today would probably be what you get on store shelves.

The grass, and the mountain formations on the right side give it away, but I agree, very realistic. That said, I sometimes wonder if realism in games will go too far. There's a point where it's just too much, and I just want to play some fvcking Mario.

What's scary is some day, you might not be able to tell the difference between a video of real life of something, and a computer generated image of something.

Sad thing is, you'll probably need a incredibly fast computer with a AMD Athlon 128 17800+ Quad Core, 16 GB of RAM, and QuadFire Radeon X5900XTX's to run Crysis (OK, so it won't be that bad, but you get the idea)

Other sad thing, I won't be able to run it on my computer 🙁

Oh, and the pictures, the grating on the right one kinda gives away the pictures considering the fencing would never be that thick.

No...it's quite easy to readily see which one is which. While the graphics are good, they are nowhere near real life quality.
