CPU vs Case temp

Recently i noticed something very interesting when using MBM to check my CPU and case temp during a long video render. Here is a screenshot of the MBM dashboard about an hour into a 5 hour video render. 50c CPU and 45c case, makes sense right? This is where things get weird: Here is a screenshot of the same screen the next morning, after the comp has been sitting idle for a few hours. 38c CPU, 44c Case. What in the world is going on here? I'm guessing that the temp sensor on my Mobo is in a part of the case where there isn't as much moving air, but i'm still baffeled as to why my cpu can read 6c lower than the case temp.

maybe your thermal probes are broken. that shouldnt be happening lol. unless theres some sort of big heat buildup right by the case thermal probe which is highly unlikely.

Your case temp sensor lies. Sensor 3 provides a more believable temperature for the case.


Sensor 1 on my Neo 2 usually reads something like 10 °C.

I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, and the sensor reported as "system" by MBM and Asus's monitoring program is ALWAYS hotter than the CPU by 2-10°. It turns out that this sensor is probably in or near the chipset, so it's not actually displaying the case or motherboard temperature at all. I think that something similar is going on with your board.
