CPU voltage the cause of higher temps?

Well, I have posted on here a little lately about possible heat issues for my processor and trying to overclock. In none of my endeavors have I experienced any instabilities, but my temps still concern me. I noticed today in CPU-Z that my CPU voltage looks way high for some reason. It is reading 1.568v... Why is it reading so high? I thought that 1.5v was supposed to be what it is set at? I have it set to auto in my bios, but could this be why my temps are so much higher than normal? That is almost 1.6v! Just curious... Or... Am I just screwed with the clawhammer? LOL

As I was saying, in the bios it is set to "auto"... Should I switch it to 1.5v manually? Any suggestions?

Sometimes the bios setting doesn't match the in Windows setting because the bios reading is off (or the Windows reading is off, LOL). I have found on my DFI board that it actually reads a little higher in the Bios than the actual voltage in Windows so a little experimentation should get you to exactly to 1.55. I have to manually set 1.450 plus 10%VID for my X2 to get to 1.55vcore.

Is there another utility besides CPU-Z that can verify the voltages? That is probably the only way I can tell which is telling me the correct voltage. I am still seeing massive temperature fluctuations... I ran prime95 all last night with no problems and the temp was at 65C this morning, with the AC kickin in my computer room. With the AC turned down it was 77C!!!!!!! That is wayyyyyy hot. What sucks is that even if I don't overclock, my temps are still over 70C!!! I am hoping a simple voltage adjustment should do the trick. Thanks for any help!

Like I said before... At my processor's defaults, I get 70C!!!! With no OCing and at default voltage!!!! Dude, clawhammers run hot!!!! Nothing more I can do about it except go buy a new processor down the road, which I plan to do anyway:)

Perhaps you need to remove your heatsink, clean everything really well, reapply some AS-5, and reattach the heatsink. Your temps are to high to be a mere voltage issue IMO, especially considering your temps at stock.

Ok, ALL overclockers need to read this... Basically, what I discovered is that if you leave the voltage setting at "default" in the bios, it doesn't actually run at the proper voltage! I just manually set my voltage to 1.5v in my bios and my temps are WAYYYYYYYYYY lower!!!! When I mean way lower, I mean like 10-17degrees lower!!!!!! This is unbelievable! And, CPU-Z is now reporting the voltage @ 1.5v as it should. Looks like I solved my whole temperature issue that I was having.

My question at this point is, why??? Why does setting my voltage to default actually OVER-volt my CPU? 1.5v is just fine for a small overclock that I am doing. I can't fathom why my processor is overvolting itself in my bios!?!?!?!?!?!!?!? Anyone have any thoughts?
