Anyone know of a good widget or other desktop display type app to show all the temps in one? I found an app called psensor but it only does GPU and HDD.

On my servers I have an app called lmsensors but for some reason it does not seem to have a package for xubuntu, and I really want to avoid installing it manually and having to deal with dependencies and crap. Is there something else I can try, or is there a way to get the cpu temp in that app?

It's lm-sensors. That should be in the repos. I used it in Ubuntu 10.04. For display, you could use conky. It takes some configuration, but it'll do almost anything you want.

Ahh I was typing lmsensors, I never even thought of trying lm-sensors. Got it now. For some reason it locks up the whole system if I select to scan the VGA sensors, but regardless after going through the process it the cpu shows up in the psensor app, and the VGA shows up as it did before, so good enough for me. I'll check out Conky as well.

Whoa! Nice one!

Never heard of psensor. How did I miss that one, all these years?!?!? LoL! o_O

Just installed it, and... it's the first app that reads all the sensors in this machine. Kudos!!!

Yep that's how I found it, I searched for "sensor" not sure why lm-sensor did not show up, is apt-get and the GUI the same thing or are they actually different? I always forget how to search in apt-get so I just use the GUI.

Conky looks pretty cool too. When I have the patience to parse out the lm-sensors output I'll have to throw my temps in there. May as well throw in my house temps too, I have sensors around the house that write to a text file on my environmental server. :D

Heh! I've always wanted to have a personal weather station @ my house. Then, I could feed data to Wunderground, my computer(s), et cetera.

EXAMPLES: http://www.ambientweather.com/weunwestpa.html

I'm just too lazy to drag myself away from the keyboard and do something useful.

BTW, the psensor PPA had a newer version. I updated the app and shot a new screenie.

Discovered something rather curious, this morning...

I accidentally choose Linux 3.5-rc4 at boot.

When I logged into my user account, and looked at the temps, only CPU & HDD temps came up, e.g. no VGA.

When I restarted in Linux 3.5-rc6, they were all back again.

Soooo, I guess it depends (somewhat) on which kernel you're running...

I don't have vga using 3.2.0-2-amd64

I'm wondering if it depends on the cpu as well. I forget the full details but there are different type of sensors on cpus. So maybe some kernels have the module for it while others don't. Just a guess though. By running lm-sensors it probably added or activated a module, in my case. I'm curious to see what will happen when I add my secondary video card with SLI. I've been running without it to troubleshoot an (unrelated) issue, and now that I changed my OS, I will wait longer to add the other so I don't add too many variables at once.
