I'm using an Epox 8k3a+ with the raid. I also have 2 drives on the regular IDE channels. They all show cpu usage of around 40% The raid has 2 western digital 40 gigs each. On one ide I have an older maxtor 20 gig ata66, and on the other ide channel I have a new Western Digital ata100 60 gig. What can i check to see what's causing this? TIA Nothing is running in the background when i do this test with HD Tach.

Forgot to mention. I'm using winxp with sp1 update. With the latest 4 in 1 drivers.

I don't quite understand...how did you determine that these IDE drives are using 40% of your CPU? You said you're running HD Tach, were you looking at your task manager while the test was running?

HDTach gives a CPU utilization rating; that is how he knows. Anyway, make sure that UDMA is enabled with all of the drives. Go into the device manager and look at the properties for your RAID controller. Make sure all your drives are set to UDMA5 for ATA100 and UDMA4 for ATA66.

I looked at the Via Bus Master IDE utility it shows my 60 gig WD is using Ultra-Dma mode 5 which is normal.I looked in device manager , it doesn't give the option anywhere for my drives, or for my raid.
