CPU Usage - what should it be @ idle

At startup, after a minute of idle, Task Manager reads as follows...

CPU Usage : 7 - 8%
PF Usage : 106Mb
Processers : 17

CPU wont fall below the 7% mark.....Is this normal ?

It depends on what you are running of course from hardware to software. In general though you really shouldnt be running at a 7% idle on a modern computer all the time. Maybe you have some antivirus software or networking software or something running in the background? Also check your network process. It should be next to nothing, even when connected to the internet. Also try disconnecting your network connection and restart the computer. Does it still show a 7% cpu usage at idle?

Go to a site like http://www.processlibrary.com/ and look up the processes on your computer. Also run spyware and virus checks of course.

In Task Manager, click the column title "CPU" to sort the display by cpu usage. Click it again if you want it in reverse order. This may help identify what process(es) are using your CPU.

I dont have any anti-virus running/scanning in the background, Bit Defender 8 installed but disabled in services (enabled when i want to run)
Wireless connection was disabled and pc restarted b4 I took the screenshot.

I'm pretty sure all of those are ok. A few deal with CD drive emulation, and obviously, one with SecuROM.

Huh. =\

I'm honestly not sure >.< sorry =\ That's a pretty low process count in general. Do you have antivirus software installed? Is the task manager only showing system processes?

Bit Defender 8, but disabled in services....I've only just recently noticed it idling so high, it has me lost as to why ?
The programs i use for protection/detection are Spyware Blaster, A Squared, Spybot, & Adware SE.
