Ok I have never had this problem on my computer before but it has just started showing up after christmas break when i got back to school. My computer has been turned off the whole time so I don't know what could have changed. I have a 2.6ghz HT P4 in a gigabyte 8knxp an ati radeon 9500 with the newest bios, chipset drivers, graphics drivers etc. When I play a game like prince of persia if i ctrl+alt+del the task manager shows the pop.exe is using 53% of the cpu constantly even if the window is minimized. If I understand correctly because prince of persia dosn't use hyperthreading this is about eqivilent to 100% cpu usage. This also happens in diablo 2 but the cpu usage goes down if the window is minimized. With diablo 2 i tried setting the affinity option in task manager to only use cpu0 with this game and when i checked cpu0 was pegged at 100% during gameplay. This might not be a problem for some peoples computers but i am using the stock heatsink and the crappy thremal pad ( i know i know i am going to put some as3 on it and improve case cooling) and my cpu starts to get up to 60c because of the load. I know these games never used this much cpu before so whats up? I have defraged, scanned for adware, spyware, virsus and have come up with nothing. I am sure that the games are the programs resposible for the cpu usage cause i have checked it in task manager.
Thanks for your help.
