CPU usage at 100%

I don't know why, but my CPU usage using win2k is 100%. i went to task manager and noticed that System is using about 99%. it was fine before today. my other partition using win me is fine. anyone know what i can do?

Either your CPU useage is really 100%, or your SysMon is faulty.

Are you running Seti@home or any other background programs? That would definitely bump you to 100%...

no, not reall. i don't have @home.
i dl imesh and audiogalaxy today, and i thought maybe that's what it was. but i unistalled them and it's still the same. my system is pretty new. it's a 1GHz Atlon with 256mb memory

it looks as if even when i just boot up it's at 100%.

win2k has the built in hlt command....i've never used win2k for a lengty period of time, and don't know if the proggy you're using will consider the hlt command to be 100% usage, or not. If it is the hlt command being processed as "utilization", then there's nothing to be worried about. (and, windowsme, and 9x don't use the hlt command natively).

HLT command is automatic...

go to your processes tab, and click on CPU.

Which proggie is maxing hte CPU? or using the majority of the CPU?

Hi guys,
me having always around 95 %, BUT with basically NO programs running. Opening WORD for ex already brings it up to 100 % and then immediately the computer freezes. Thus the machine is useless and I get mad.
Any more ideas?

meanwhile found out that once the usage jumps up and the computer dies, its "Windows 32bit VxD Message Server" MSGSRV32 which takes up all the capacity.
What is this about?
