Cpu upgrade? thoughts or opinions C450a on a bh6--> what?

Ok well after just ordering a new video card The other day I am now having the need for some more speed and am unsure of which avenue to take.

I am tired of the intel/amd drivel and just want what is best for the money and in my budget, which is not big by any means.

what this translates to is that I would like a speed upgrade that is easy to implement, cheap, and uses existing components (most importantly my motherboard and memory)

I am looking at either a p3 600 or higher (even though the board says it only supports 600 on the site)

or some flavor of the new celeron, however I would like a p3 so I can try out some sse action.

I am no longer a fan of overclocking so I would rather not persue a solution based on that, any opinions/ideas would be greatly apprediated thanks.

If you flash the bios on your bh6 to the newest ver.(ss) it will then support cel2's and p3's up to the p3933.I did and have a cel 2-633 which has a 9.5 cpu multiplier,overclocked to 950mhz.The p3-700e(not eb) would be a really good choice on an abit-3 sloket.Thats a fcpga p3-700e,or a flip chip in the socket version,in an adapter that fits in your slot 1 motherboard.If you can afford it get the 800 or 850 slot 1.

I just saw a post from someone else on this board though that they were having immense difficulty with a p3 800 and a bh6, I just dont want to get stuck in that boat.

Buy the cpu from a place where you can return it for a full refund like buy.com or onvia.com.

Even if you pay 10-20 dollars more you will have insurance for 100% money back if the cpu does not work with your system.

Try the P3700 from onvia.com they should do 933mhz without any problems. If you have descent ram and a video card. Or get a celeron 633 and oc it to atleast 800 or 950 easy.

I've got 2 Celery 633's@950, very nice for $100 or so. Celeron II's also include SSE FWIW. If you are not in to overclocking then I think the PIII 700 would be a nice price/performance compromise.
