Hello,

I have a computer with an amd-2 400 Mhz processor. I know that my options for upgrade are either
amd-2 550 Mhz or an amd-iii 450 Mhz. I believe my motherboard is a Socket7. Do you think it is worth the investment (I know it is little, but still something) to upgrade? Would I expect considerable performance change with either of the processors?
Thanks very much for your help.

I have an AMD 380MHz at 450 MHz. You might think about overclocking that CPU first and save some $ for now.

Don't waste your money upgrading to another socket 7 Cpu. These Amd II & III are costing more to buy than the Duron. How much ram are you running? Consider upgrading your ram instead if you don't have alot.

Thanks very much for all the replies.
As suggested, I'll save my money for now. 15% difference is not worth spending 80 bucks for a new k6. Good thing I got plenty of ram (224 MB) to keep me going for a while. Later, I'll go with a new mobo+cpu.

Thank you again...

Try K6+ 450 it's around $50
and easily OC-able to 550@ 2.0V default voltage
and I beleive you can get more performance increase
I got it for replacing my p200 system.
It's faster than my P2 400 system, I think
This was my best upgrade ever.
