not worth it in my opinion. you don't state what you are using the cpu for though.

FX 6300 is great, FX 8320 is a bit cheaper than 8350 but both are great for the price...

Well, older games and programs wont use full potential of Bulldozer/Piledriver since the arhitecture of those CPU's is lets say vastly different and now games utilize it and we can see that FX 8350 can beat an i5 3570k and even the i7 3770k in some games like Crysis 3. People say that you can't go dual graphics on FX series, that is correct but only because GPU's from Nvidia and ATI were released a bit before and after so they dint have time to adapt for Bulldozer/Piledriver series.

When Radeon HD 8xxx series and GTX7xx series get released I think SLI/CrossfireX could be done, since Bulldozer/Piledriver series have vastly different arhitecture than Intel and previous AMD's CPU's... I dont know much about processors but I use logical and theories of why it cannot be done for current generation of graphic cards...

Anyway it better to buy one strong GPU than two weak and SLI/Crossfire them and have higher power consumption and posibility to not work properly in SLI/Crossfire ...

Bulldozer was a bit of a mess, rushed... Piledriver/Vishera fixed all the problems and Steamroller will be a huge improvement of Piledriver while I expect a refresh if Piledriver/Vishera series soon.

OP yes its worth it as it will give a better multi and single threaded performance which will be needed for new and old games. I went from a FX 4100 @4.6GHz to a FX 8320 @4.4GHz and it was worth it. I get higher FPS in most of my games due to my FX 4100 was bottlenecking my cards. BF3 64mp also fells much smoother than on my 4100. It's really up to you if you want to upgrade or not. If i was you i'd just get a FX 8320 and oc to 4.0GHz and basically have the same performance as a 8350 for less $$$.

Edit: What's your GPU

Yea I agree I think its a good upgrade.

I also would go for the 8320 and just overclock as well.

Right now my GPU is a MSI 6870 twin frozr 2 which will probably be upgraded in the next several months.

Oh situtation changes then. I would upgrade that first and then get a FX 8320 later down the road. Sell your card and get a HD 7870 Tahiti or HD 7950

Go with FX 8350 if you want to have a huge overclock potential, FX 8320 is almost the same just a bit less clock and overclocking potential but you can ofcourse OC to FX 8350 level. You won't regret it ;)

That sounds like a good idea. I actually have a buyer for both but i might do the GPU first.
Thanks!

I got to agree with Durvelle here; upgrade our gpu first; if you can do both.....go for it; but you will see a difference going from 4 core to 8.......

:) I'm on 8120; which I'll be moving to 8350 most likely soon; why in the never ending battle for more powa :D

Just wait for haswell :p

I guarantee this processor will be cheaper when it comes out.

I don't think so, 22nm production process will cost more and you will need to wait for a year for lowering the costs of production and prices of Haswell CPU's.

Here's what's going to happen.

4570k @ 230 USD MAX
8350 @ 170 USD MAX

End result = $$$$ saved.

Do you play Crysis 3 or Battlefield 3?
If yes, certainly. If.

But first, upgrade that GPU if you're gaming at higher resolutions.

Communism, Haswell uses a new socket. Also this guy has an i5 2500k that is from previous generation, if he upgrades now he will need to buy a new motherboard so he could have a i5 3570k and then when he decides to upgrade to Haswell it will cost even more...

While AMD maintains their sockets for several generations, he could buy now FX 8350 Piledriver - Vishera and later in Q4 2013/Q1 2014 he could buy a Steamroller and in Q1/Q2 of 2015 he can buy an Excavator that are under same socket, the AM3+ ...

AM3+ is about to be end of lifed soon, since DDR4 is forthcoming.

The op was talking about upgrading from a 4170 to an 8350, dont really know how intel upgrade paths got into the discussion.

He talked about haswell and "4570k"... So yea. Please start reading... o_O

Torn Mind... It will not die soon, Steamroller will be out on AM3+ socket and Excavator will be also on AM3+, maybe they make AM3++ socket because of DDR4 even thought DDR3 will still fine.

Kaveri will support onboard GDDR5 or DDR3/DDR3L depending on what motherboard you choose most likely or it will support both.

DDR4 will be expensive when it launches, it will be affordable maybe in 2-3 years when it become's a standard for all newer PC's...
