CPU upgrade question

Probably a stupid question, but I just want to make sure that I am not gonna be doing something stupid.

I have a Dell PowerEdge 600SC with Celeron 2 GHz. The CPU specs are: Pentium 4 @ 2.4GHz and above...; FSB: 533 MHz
I want to upgrade the processor to Pentium 4 @ 3.06 GHz, FSB: 533MHz, HT.

Any reason for this not to work?

check dells website or the motherboard makers site for specs on what the motherboard offically supports.

The only problem I see with it is that the mobo might not support HT.

I found more specs:
FSB 533 MHz systems support FSB 533 MHz P4 (including 3.06 HT) and FSB 400 MHz Celeron CPUs
FSB 400 MHz systems support FSB 400 MHz P4 and FSB 400 MHz Celeron CPUs

Is there any way to find out if my system is FSB 533 or 400 MHz. On boot it detects the CPU as Celeron with FSB 400 MHz, but according the the above specs it could be either 533 or 400 system. There is nothing about this in the printed specifocations that I got with the machine. I couldn't find anything in the BIOS (is FSB something that could be set in the BIOS or somehow locked)?

You can't change the fsb in Dell systems, they don't want you overclocking. And you have a 100fsb (x4, since it's Intel) processor, so you aren't going to be able to upgrade to a 3.06B. You'll have to get a 2.0B or a 2.2B, unless you can find a 2.4A somewhere. Just open up your case, and look at the motherboard. Find out the manufacturer and the model number, then google it.

edit: Intel never made a 533fsb 2.4ghz Celeron. Here's a link to what you have, and as you can see, it's 400fsb (100 fsbx4): link to 2.4ghz Celeron.

Check the chipset of the motherboard and see if it supports 533. I'd be shocked if it didn't.

Dell has bios's written specifically for their boards, that's why you can't change the fsb in a Dell, even if it's got an Asus motherboard and an i875 chipset. If Dell doesn't want you to be able to use a 533fsb chip in that board, you won't, no matter who made the board or what chipset it has on it. Money talks...
