CPU upgrade question - AMD Duron to Athlon

I have a K7S5A motherboard with a Duron 1Ghz. I was hoping to squeeze a bit more life out of it by popping in an Athlon XP 2400 that I just got. I read up and see that the MB should support it. Is it a matter of simply popping in the new chip or do I need to worry about anything else like power requirement? Sorry to sound like a total noob but....I am (it's been a long time since I messed with hardware).

You might have to change some settings in the BIOS to have the FSB running at the right speed for the chip, other than that, you should be able to pop it in there and let it go.

I've got several K7S5A boards running XP 2400's and as stevty2889 said just pop it in and make sure the FSB is 133/133 in the BIOS, (when ever I've swapped out cpu's in the K7S5A the BIOS defaults back to a FSB of 100/100).

So i got up this morning and decided on some system downtime for the upgrade. Popped in the chip and and remounted the heat sink. When I powered up, hear a click, and then the heatsink fan started slowing down. It never did come to a stop. I smelled something like a faint burning smell, not good - seems like my so called new fleaBay Athlon chip went OMGWTFBBQ on me. Aaarrrggghhhh!!! I'm out $40, that sucked...
While I was cussing myself that I blew up my system, I popped my Duron back in and all still works thankfully. Just for the heck of it I tried the Athlon again and the fan just dragged as if the system doesn't get enough power...weird - never posted of course since no power to the drives either with the Athlon in. Anyone seen anything like this?
So I'm now licking my wounds wondering what to do next? At least my original gig still works. My guess is I blew the chip since it smoked on me so I can't really go postal on eBay. Now I remember why it's been a long time since I messed with hardware! 🙁
