Greetings,

Looking for some help here as I am not fully up on current CPU's and boards, etc.

I am building a new rig, but I understand there are some new Intel chips coming out in June? When I build MY PC in a few months it will just be a good Core 2 Duo. But that is not the topic.

What I have is a 2.8p, D865 Perl mb, 2 gigs ram, x800xtpe agp,... My son will get it and I can donate the 1ghz 512 8500 he is forced to play on. I could fit a 3.4 EE but they want such ridicules $ for one. Would take a used one but have not found any.

So, for under $100 what is the best CPU and or CPU & MB deal new or used you guys and girls know of? I would pay $75 for a 3.4 EE. For AMD I am not sure what AMD chip would be the best with what mb for under $100?

Any help would be great. Heading out to pizza with the wife and kids. Will check back in a few hours. Short essays or hermanos are great. (love Arrested Development)

I really just want a cheap CPU as that would be easiest. I do have a new 500w nMediapc psu so I don't mind puttling a little money in this machine since I just droped $50.

Peace and Blessings

If you have Fry's Electronics store nearby, there's a current "E4300 CPU & ECS board with AGP/DDR" combo deal for $139.
A less expensive combo would be the same ECS (VIA chip) board and an Intel 805D CPU, combo for $89.
Both of these Fry's combo deals have been offered recently.
Older socket 939 AMD boards may still be found, which also allow re-use of existing DDR memory and an AGP video card.
Wait another month or so, and Intel Bearlake P35 chipset boards should be available. But, those boards will require DDR2 memory and a PCIe video card, unless opting for onboard video.

I would check out the hotdeals forum and look for CPU/Mobo bundles.

Can also go to some of the major e-tailers, newegg, clubit, outpost, etal and check their CPU pricing. Many times they will have mobo bundled together.
