Last year I built my own computer and used the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard combined with a AMD Athlon 3200+ CPU. After reading through the forums there is a lot of discussions around Dual-Core etc.

I was wondering what my CPU upgrade options are using the same motherboard.

Thanks

You have four options the way I see it.

-Stick with what you have
-Overclock your 3200+
-Upgrade to a high end single core chip
-Upgrade to a dual core

Right now the Opteron 165 and X2 3800+ are the cheapest dual core s939 you can buy. The 165 is actually slower than your current chip, while the 3800+ runs at the same clockspeed. You probably only want to get dual core if you OC, or actually need the extra performance. Games wont really benefit today, but multitasking will.

As for a single core, there is the 4000+ as a nice option, however I would either OC your 3200+ or pick up a dual core.

I would suggest you learn how to overclock your 3200+ before you spend a bunch of $$$ to upgrade. You might find that it still perfectly fits your needs with a few new settings in BIOS...

I just posted on another thread that I was able to get an extra 550Mhz out of my CPU on that same motherboard. That's at stock voltages too - so virtually no risk of damage.

I bet you can get at LEAST to 2.4Ghz on stock volts and stock cooling with that chip.

I wouldn't upgrade, I'd overclock. Hey, if you break it, you were going to buy a new CPU anyway, right?

There are probably about 100 Athlon 64 overclocking guides out there, and I'm sure some are for your mobo specifically. Type it into Google and search.
