EDIT: yes current runs fine, but I run 3 30" monitors in surround @ 7680 x 1600 at 3 titan sli with bezel it's at, 8050 x 1600. Check, my benches here:
www.overclock.net/t/1415441/7680x1440-benchmarks-plus-2-3-4-way-sli-gk110-scaling/100_100

Same as topic says:

Wanted 4930k or the x model but can't wait. What's my next best option????

Budget 1k-2k build for 3 titan SLI: 1300 watt power supply.

I want PCIE 16x tri or quad
Lots of sata6 ports
Lots of overclocking headroom
16-32gb of ram
Win 7 or should I go 8.1??

If your budget is 2000$ then with your graphics setup alone you are already 50% over-budget. Titans are 1K a pop.

IVB-E (or SB-E) is your best choice if you want to run Tri SLI. Keep in mind that mainstream platforms such as Z87 only have 16 pci express lanes natively, and you'll need a 450$ motherboard with a PLX chip for tri or quad SLI with 40 lanes on a Z87/Z77 platform (which allows x8/x8/x8). Without the PLX chip, you'll be forced to run Tri SLI at x4 speeds which will definitely be a bottleneck and waste of money. Because of this, I consider mainstream (Z87/Z77) platforms mostly worthless for tri or quad SLI. You can get a 200$ x79 motherboard with 40 lanes native, and use the price difference towards an LGA 2011 processor. Keep in mind that the 4820 being released in September will also be an unlocked K SKU, so that will also be an option to consider.

Furthermore, once you're using high surround resolutions with Tri or Quad SLi, virtually every game will become CPU limited. This is why an LGA 2011 processor would make infinitely more sense than a mainstream 4770k, for instance. A hexa core processor would really be better suited in your usage scenario. Also, You can get an x79 motherboard with everything you list, including tons of SATA6G ports and USB3.

I think he already has the titans. the budget is for cpu, mobo and ram only.

Well if you can't wait for Ivy-e just get a sandy bridge e. meaning LGA 2011 mobo + i7 3930k / 3970x.

1-2k is for the mobo/cpu/ram
EVGA Dark or Rampage you are thinking?

You did not follow...

I already have 3 titans and the monitors

EVGA makes good GPUs but their motherboards, IMO, suck. I've heard of so many issues from EVGA motherboard users, they just don't have the support and experience of the likes of Asus. As far as which board, it's hard to say. What I would do is look at what features you want in terms of number of SATA6G ports and what not, because Asus has roughly 10 x79 boards with varying features and varying cost levels - I do like the sabertooth x79 a lot, though. Rampage? Those boards are incredibly expensive for the features they offer, I usually go with the Deluxe or Pro lines. As mentioned the sabertooth x79 is great as well. But definitely look at the specification lists to see if they meet what you're looking for in terms of expansion/ports.

IB-E is so close now, if 2011 is the choice it seems almost mandatory to wait just a bit longer. Perhaps a killer deal on a 3930K can be found, such that it can be resold in favor of an IB-E soon., but I haven't seen anything like that pop up.

If you look hard enough on the FS/FT threads you can find a 3930k for $400 and under. ;) That will make you forget about that 4930k :)

Maybe J&R will take back the chip in 30 days, I am eager to bench and compare it to my x58-ud5 rev 2 / I7-930 O/C to 4.34 GHZ

But now I am wondering if the new Asus Rampage IV is going to be updated... HMM

It isn't being updated, aside from a new BIOS for IVB-E.

LGA 2011 isn't getting a new chipset.

Hey guys,

I was trying to recycle my Ultra 120 Thermalright Extreme Cooler. It's HUGE and has 2 120mm fans leading to 2 80mm fans outtaking in my computer.

CPU: 3930K / 4930K

Someone mentioned that I would need a better cooling situation. I thought I had a one of the most "bad-ass" cooler's on the market Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme as it O/C my i7-930 from 2.8GHz to 4.3/4ghz.. Please let me know your thoughts:

Yeah, I edited my post after looking more carefully. It's customary to signify the use of quad channel by using a 4X before the mem stick capacity.

Consider the H100i! Not only does it cool a bit better than your existing setup, the best part of the closed loop coolers is that aside from the rad in your case, it takes practically NO ROOM whatsoever on top of your CPU. If you look at your CPU now - jeez - how annoying is that to work around? The H100i has NO footprint whatsoever and it makes working inside your case - whether you're changing GPUs, fiddling with RAM, or doing anything on your motherboard - it is all much much easier without that hulking monstrosity of a heatsink being present. The H100i is about half an inch tall and 1 inch in diameter, it's a beauty.

Just IMO! I'll never go to traditional heatsinks again. The Noctua NH-D14 is a great cooler but it is WAY TOO big. I hate it. Loving my H100i because it takes practically no space aside from the rad on my case.

Case looks pretty old! You still have some cash left in the 2k budget, might as well knock that out as well. :)
