I went to upgrade my socket 754 from 3k to 3400 but only managed to bend the pins on my new cpu and when I put my old cpu back in to get my computer back up and running she won't even post....
I tried to reset CMOS but that didn't do anything......
UGH.....where do I go from here....
The mobo has one green light lit (Asus K8V Deluxe) so I'm guessing its ok but how do I know if its not...Its the only 754 in my house...everything else is a socket A......

I didn't break any pins in the socket....it wasn't until after I broke them off :(

I can't believe I forked up a $225 cpu....I'm pissed...

and now the old one won't fire up.......I'm going to lose it!

did you try and boot with the forked cpu? you might have screwed the moherboard in the process.

if not check and see if you took out your cpu power cable...etc...and forgot to put it back in.

The CPU is History but I don't know how that would have fried the mobo.
I did order another mobo from newegg hoping to just swap the boards and life will go on....less $225 in my pocket....
Asus has a 3 year warranty so if it is fried she'll be going back to them.

How many pins? If you want a project, you could get out the solderer. I've done SMT soldering with clunky soldering equipment so if you have the patience, you might be able to recover that $225. I was putting in mod chips in a couple Playstation 1's so this might be a bit more tricky but ?
