Have a MicroStar MSI 6163 pro (BX) motherboard running a 500 Katmai. Is it possible to upgrade to Coppermine. THe lowest voltage setting allowed in the bios is 2.0V. I understand the coppermine runs at 1.65V.

If you use a good slotket, it will let you adjust the voltage on the slocket (to 1.65 or a slightly higher voltage for overclocking).

AFAIK every MSI 6163 Pro board is able to use Coppermine CPUs. In fact, it's one of the main upgrades over the original 6163 board. Make sure you have the latest BIOS revision though, it's up to V3.8 now. Flashing the BIOS is a snap with the utilities they've provided.

For some more info, see MSI's page on the 6163 Pro:

Heck my 6163pro is running bios 3.3 and has a 533a @992mhz 1.80 volts on an Iwill II socklet w/Alpha PEP66... BTW this is the wife`s machine too, she`s happy for sure...
