CPU Thermal Probe

I've just got a Thermaltake Hardcano II, i want one of the temperature sensors to read the processor temp. Where would be the best place to stick the sensor to give me the most accurate reading?
At the moment I have it on the bottom of my heatsink, but the temp is about 8 degrees C less than what it is reporting in the bios and the temp program I have.

I am using a Pentium 4 by the way.

The hardcano II has "fish line" type of wires near the actual sensor, this allows you to place the sensor under the cpu, almost centered. Then use a thinly-cut piece of strong tape (or the tape included with the hII) to secure the sensor to the bottom of the cpu. Be careful to thread that thin line between the pins so they don't interfere with the pins, or get damaged when you place the cpu back on. And I've found it best to have the senor wires coming from a corner which has the least amount of capasitors around.

Then carefully place the cpu back on the mobo. You might have to keep the sensor line steady too. That is the most accurate way I have found. The only better way I can think of is to have the sensor centered right on the raised cpu core. But of course, we can't do that.

I've never used a p4, but I assume they are similar.

thanks for the reply but there is very little room underneath the processor on a P4 unlike AMD's and PIII so the sensor won't fit in there.

Any other ideas?

surely some one out there with a P4 has some sort of external temperature reading display and has a method of placing the sensor.

Is there room between the heatsink and cpu, but not on the raised cpu core? I've done that before, have the sensor touching the side of the core.

If you try it, of course be sure the probe is not in any way affecting the heatsink being flush on the core.
