CPU temps vary widely

Most of the time my CPU temp runs in the mid-high 30's. Once in a while after I turn the system on it runs up to 52-54 and stays there. The temp stays stable both times (ie, if it boots and goes to 37, it will stay in the 37-42 range, depending on cpu usage; if it boots and goes to 50 it will stay in the 50-55 range).

I'd say it's 90+% in the lower range. System temp is pretty constant (low 30's), at least until the heat wave forcast for next week :)

I'm running an 1.5v Barton XP2600 w/Artic Ceramique; it's slightly overclocked from 11.5 to 12X (2Ghz).

thanks

try to take a look at the services that load each time, that could account for the temp, could be something like an update prog running anr even spyware, my 3000 barton is @ 40.2 with a plain copper core heatsink and 80mm case fan

Hmm, I've looked at the services, and watch the cpu utilization and still don't have a clue...
sometimes the base temp is 37, sometimes it's about 49-50. It will go up on increased cpu usage from the base, and back down to the base . I may try cleaning the thermal glop and redoing it in case it's not sitting right or something.
