Hey All,

I have read a few posts here that had said the ASUS board registers higher temps than other boards. I would like to see how my temps compaire to other A7V266e Users, so i thought id do a little poll to see what temps other A7V266E users were getting. please post what cpu your using, what HSF, your temps and what you OC'd it to (if you did OC)

Asus a7v266e
xp1600 running at 145fsb(1.52ghz).
Sk6 HSF
43deg idle
49deg load

Have a good day! :)

AH, here we go again... more banter about how the Asus boards "read higher than actual"...

Once again, define Actual. NO one has yet to do this... Do you want actual backside temps? Do you want compensated readings (that 75+% of mb manufacturers give you)?

Asus compensates their readings more than other manufacturers. There's no denying that. However, no socket-a reading is accurate. So calling the Asus reading inaccurate is quite inaccurate, in itself ;). Yes, higher than other mb's, but a better representation of actual die temps.

LOL Mike..your too much man :)

didnt mean to infer that the Asus was reading too high...all i was trying to get was Apple to Apple comparisons to make sure my temps are on par. i will adjust the original post :)

btw, you forgot the all important case temp... without that, comparisons are generally useless ;)... this is one reason why we've always got "my cpu is running too hot" threads.

I am very interested in this question too. I have the exact same setup and have not had the chance to install an OS yet but notice that even with an SK6 + 7200 rpm fan (loud sucka) it is showing 50deg C in the bios after about 5-10 mins of being on. I don't know if this is considered load or idle but that is what I am getting along with 30deg C as the Case temp.

Any word on if this is acceptable or should I be worried? I was kind worried about when moving the heatsink around after seating it to make sure that it was in place. I was afraid that I may have smeared off too much of the artic silver II I applied. Any comments about that? Should I take it off and check?

I just read an article that addressed the temp issue on overclockers.com. Can't remember when. It was 1.5-2 weeks ago. It basically stated that the Asus readings were not accurate nor reliable, more so that others. I'll try to find the article and post it.

There also was something in a recent A7V266E review that used a temp probe placed on the core... the Asus diode was about 5-7C higher than the thermal probe.

One thing I find interesting, is that the Asus setup shows how much heat can build up behind the chip. Why aren't mobo manufacturers putting a small hole or two in the PCB to let hot air escape? The pressure alone would vacate a great deal of it.

Look at the internal diode tests/asus socket-thermistor results at VoidYourWarranty.. Those are the best indication that ASUS temps are not higher than actual most of the time.

Asus readings are higher, but not more reliable... they are still socket-thermsitor, and are still terrible for measuring temp changes effectively. However, by virtue of being higher, they are closer to actual DIE temperature than other mb's.

Comparing asus socket-thermsitor to an external probe has infinite problems, including the fact that an external probe likewise does not measure full CPU DIE temp.
