How do you get a reading of what your CPU temperature is while running?

This information is extracted from ancillary monitoring hardware integrated into your system BIOS, a watchguard if you will.

If you need to monitor this from your running operating system such as Windows you can install software provided by your motherboard manufacturer or use a third party software like motherboard monitor.

Ok, so where do I go in BIOS to see it? Or does it depend on the BIOS type/version?

it depends on the bios. what motherboard do you have?

It's usually under "Health" ("blabla Health blabla") in the BIOS

Your motherboard CD may also include a monitor program like FoxyProxy said.

Yes, "Health", "Power", "Monitor"/"Monitoring" are all possibilities.

I use a windows program called RIVATuner to monitor my 6600 in real time saved logs. With my MB in came with EZTune5 to monitor fan spds and CPU/ambient temps.

What board? my dfi board came with smartguardian to monitor my temp in windows

(It's an old board - ASUS P4T533-C)

Awesome! Found it under "Power" then "Hardware Monitor".

The MB is 30C (86F), and the CPU is 36C (96.5F).

Are these OK? Or should they be lower? The process is a Pentium4 2.6GHz.

Great temps but a suggestion: Use everest. Its a program, very accurate and shows it in windows.
