Okay,

I'm getting an idle temperature of 55°C in windows, while doing nothing. No programs loaded. My idle temperature used to be around 32°C (before I reinstalled windows 98 se) but now I need to load coolingsoftware to get that temp. What gives? Is my cpu maybe damaged?? Every time my cpu gets hot, my power supply begins to peep.

So is my cpu the cause or my power supply?

Before I reinstalled win98se, BIOS every time showed a temperature of around 50°C and in windows I got a temp. reading of around 32°C. Now I get around 50°C in BIOS and around 54°C in windows.

help!!

Did you happen to have a CUSL2, and updated the bios? Cause if you did, the new temp is correct...
