cpu temperature for Intel 3.06 Ghz

wpshooter

I am building an new desktop system in which I am using an Intel P4 - 3.06 Ghz processor.

I already have an older system which I built using an Intel P4 - 2.53 Ghz processor. The idle temperature on the processor (the 2.53) usually runs at about 33C.

I notice that when I fireup the new system that the BIOS is reporting the 3.06 processors' temperature at about 45C.

I current have a Cooler Master AeroFlow (P4 Model) cooper heat sink combination on the 3.06 processor.

Is the approx. 12 degree higher temperature for the 3.06 Ghz processor normal or should the idle temperature of this processor be lower than this (45C) ?

Thanks.

in my experience with the 3.06ghz P4, thermally, it is unlike any of the other P4 cpus I've used so far.
It is easily the hottest running CPU of the bunch and if you are idling at 45C , depening on the temperature of the room, it should be about normal.
leave the side panel off, re-arrange cables, get new fans, thats about all you can do for air cooling this cpu.

i put no faith in motherboard temperature readings as they are based on math equations and not actual thermal readings

people should invest in digidocs or something with thermal probes to give you accurate readings
it really will take alot of the headaches out of your system
